Viktor Gyokeres transfer stance emerges amid huge £54m update and Arsenal and Chelsea links

by · football.london

Arsenal and Chelsea-linked Viktor Gyokeres is keeping his options open ahead of the summer transfer window after enjoying a high-profile season with Sporting Clube de Portugal.

The Swedish forward became a potential target for a number of clubs in Europe after his prolific form in Portugal. This campaign, the 26-year-old has scored 37 goals in 39 games across all competitions.

He was heavily linked with a reunion with former manager Ruben Amorim at Manchester United in January and they could have done with his services to boost their attack, given the struggles of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund in front of goal. However, Amorim previously stated he wouldn't poach players from his old club, though the summer could be a different story.

A recent report by Portuguese newspaper Record suggests that while an exit at the end of the season is likely, Gyokeres' main focus is on securing another league title with Sporting. If successful, he could leave the club 'through the big door.'

His agent is handling with the interest from other clubs as he concentrates on his football. In a previous interview, the striker claimed he would only leave Lisbon if he was assured of being 'as important as he is' at Sporting.

"The most important thing is to have the opportunity to play. There are other factors, but I will see about that when the time comes", Gyokeres said in a chat with Fotbollskanalen back in November. He also mentioned not having a "particular preference" regarding which club he might join next.

Even though his contract with his current Portuguese club includes a €100million (£84m) release clause, Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Gyokeres could be permitted to move on for a sum ranging between €65-75m (£54-£62m) due to a gentleman's agreement.

"This is based on payment terms, add-ons and those sort of things," Romano clarified on his YouTube channel. "The package that Sporting could accept, could be around €65m to €75m.

"That's a very good price for one of the best strikers in Europe in terms of numbers. All the top clubs in Europe are going very strong for Gyokeres in the summer. I've been informed this price could be enough to land him. Many clubs are exploring the situation and are ready to present their project to Viktor Gyokeres."
