Tottenham team vs AZ confirmed - Romero and Van de Ven start with four changes for Spurs
by Alasdair Gold · football.londonAnge Postecoglou has named the Tottenham Hotspur team that he believes can overcome 1-0 deficit to progress past AZ in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Alkmaar arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in charge of the round of 16 tie after dominating the first leg while Postecoglou's side were well below par and ultimately fortunate to return home with just the single goal hitting the back of their net. For this game, Spurs are without Kevin Danso, who joins the injury list, but Ben Davies is back in training and Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven both start after coming through their returns on Sunday.
For the first time since October last year, Postecoglou has been to start the four members of Tottenham's leadership group - Son Heung-min, James Maddison, Romero and Guglielmo Vicario.
Rodrigo Bentancur is unavailable for the second leg through suspension, so the midfield trio contains Lucas Bergvall, Maddison and Pape Matar Sarr. Son is up front again alongside Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert.
Here's the Tottenham team that Postecoglou has selected to face AZ on Thursday night:
Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence; Sarr, Bergvall, Maddison; Odobert, Solanke, Son. Subs: Austin, Whiteman, Udogie, Davies, Gray, Bissouma, Johnson, Tel, Moore, Scarlett.
