Taekwondo event attracts 200 in prep for state championships
by Matthew Umpang · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (April 9): A Taekwondo Kyorugi and Poomsae Championships organised by the Kuching Taekwondo and Self-Defence Club (WTF) took place over the weekend at the Sarawak Sukma Taekwondo Training Centre.
The one-day tournament drew about 200 participants.
The competitors came from various training centres as well as primary and secondary schools, colleges, and universities across Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Bau and Lundu. They competed in both kyorugi (sparring) and poomsae (pattern) categories.
A statement by the club described the tournament as a preparatory platform for athletes ahead of the upcoming PTNS-SSC-MSNS State Taekwondo Kyorugi and Poomsae Championships 2026 to be held in Bintulu from April 17 to 18.
It expressed satisfaction with the strong participation and competitive spirit among the young athletes.
It also commended the support from parents, guardians and family members as reflecting growing interest and commitment towards the development of taekwondo at both grassroots and competitive levels.
The club also reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing talent and promoting excellence in taekwondo while looking forward to continued participation and achievements in future competitions.
