O'Rourke sisters lose World Boxing Championships finals

The O'Rourke sisters have been defeated in finals at the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships in Serbia.

Aoife O'Rourke was beaten by Russia’s Anastasia Shamonova in the 75kg category.

Earlier Russia's Elena Gapeshina got the better of Lisa O'Rourke in the 70kg cateorgy.

It means the O’Rourkes come away with silver medals.

Aoife was down on three cards after two rounds, with the remaining two judges having it level.

The final round was given to the Russian fighter.

Gapeshina, meanwhile, won all three rounds by unanimous decision from the five judges in her bout with Lisa O’Rourke.

The O’Rourkes made boxing history this week by becoming the first sisters to contest a World Championship final in the same tournament.

Lisa was previously world champion in 2022.
