Fianna Fáil holds emergency meeting over sport grants

Fianna Fáil held an emergency meeting in Leinster House tonight amid claims that Fine Gael had "jumped the gun" by announcing details of the latest sport grants scheme.

Junior Sports Minister Charlie McConalogue told his colleagues that the Community Sports Facilities Fund was still not finalised.

However, several members of Fine Gael have already announced on social media that the registration date for applications opens next Monday.

Fianna Fáil TDs are fuming and believe this gave their colleagues in Government a head start when it came to advertising the scheme which is viewed as very important in individual constituencies.

A spokesperson for Sports Minister Patrick O'Donovan has insisted the information was shared with Fianna Fáil and Independent members of Government earlier this week.

Those attending tonight's Fianna Fáil meeting say the matter will now have to be discussed by the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste.
