Dublin exhibition captures every Roy Keane red card

A new exhibition documents every red card in Roy Keane's football career.

Dublin artist Seán Harte's 'Sent Off' series depicts the 11 times Keane received his marching orders for Manchester United and the one time he was dismissed for Ireland.

His first oil pastel painting was Keane's first red card in 1995, for an altercation with Crystal Palace’s Gareth Southgate.

"The first one was purely out of amusement to me. It kicked it all off. People responded well to it, so I kept going," Mr Harte told RTÉ News.

Keane's notorious, knee-high tackle on Manchester City's Alf-Inge Haaland in April 2001 Manchester derby, is captured in a series of paintings.

"It took me a while to do these. I felt a bit of pressure. It’s the most infamous tackle," he added.

Mr Harte says Keane's candid podcast conversations, as well as clips on social media, have informed his work.

He believes his art has struck a chord with fans of Irish popular culture and sporting nostalgia.

"It's not high-end art. It's not putting people off. It allows people to revisit these football memories in a different way," he said.

The exhibition opens tomorrow at Hen's Teeth in Dublin.
