Josh Allen slams helmet in frustration as Bills lose heartbreaker
· New York PostIt was just not the Bills’ night.
Whether it was the multiple injuries they suffered, the turnovers, not taking advantage of converting a fourth-and-27 late in the fourth quarter, Buffalo could not get the job done in a 23-19 loss to the Texans.
Quarterback Josh Allen seemed to sum up how things were going for the Bills in the fourth quarter when he slammed his frustration following a stalled drive.
A nine-play drive that went deep into Texans territory eventually stalled after five straight runs with James Cook III.
The last one — on a fourth-and-1 from the Houston 23-yard line was stopped for a 2-yard loss.
An annoyed Allen then came to the sideline and appeared to voice his frustration with backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, saying what internet lip-readers and the Prime Video broadcast believed was “What are we doing?”
Allen was kept in check throughout, throwing for 253 yards on 24-for-34 passing with two interceptions.
“We had a chance to win it there at the end,” Allen said after the tough loss. “We did a good job of staying in it and our defense bailed us out a couple of times. We’ve got to find a way, and we didn’t.”
It was tough for Allen to get anything going on a night he was sacked a career-high eight times and hit four other times.
“When they hit our quarterback 12 times, I don’t like that,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said. “I don’t like that stat at all. It’s just not a healthy way to play and it’s not a good way to keep our quarterback healthy for the rest of the season. We’ve got to play better.”

But Buffalo still had a chance in the final minutes, thanks in large part to the improbable fourth-and-27 the Bills converted on a hook-and-ladder that went for 44 yards.
Josh Palmer caught a pass from Allen for 11 yards before the wideout lateraled the ball to Khalil Shakir, who ran 33 yards.
But on a fourth-and-6, four plays later, Allen threw his second interception of the night to seal the loss.
The Bills are now 7-4 and slid further back behind the 9-2 Patriots in the AFC East.
The Texans improved to 6-5.
