Travis Kelce may have hinted about his NFL future while welcoming Eric Bieniemy back to Chiefs

Did Travis Kelce give a hint about his NFL future while reacting to the news that Eric Bieniemy is expected to be back as offensive coordinator in Kansas City?

The star tight end might have provided a clue into his thinking during Wednesday’s episode of the “New Heights” podcast as he praised the return of Bieniemy

“I can’t wait to see him back in the building, man,” Kelce said. “He’s one of my favorite coaches of all-time, one of my favorite people of all time. I’ve had so many unbelievable growing moments under him as a player, as a person, and I just love the guy. And it’s gonna be awesome to see him back in the building and see him back wearing the Chiefs logo, baby.”

Bieniemy was the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator from 2018 through 2022 and then left to take the same role with the Commanders in 2023, though in Washington, he was in charge of calling plays. He was the offensive coordinator for two of the Chiefs’ last three Super Bowl wins

He was part of first-year Bears head coach Ben Johnson’s staff this past season in Chicago.

“I think it’s great. I think it’s a marriage that’s gonna pick up right where it left off,” Kelce said. “E.B., he and who he is as a coach, you can see kind of his personality, what he brings to the table in that Chicago team. I know Ben Johnson has his own version of that. He’s a very tough guy. And what he did in Detroit, he brought over as well.

“And you can see those running backs over in Chicago and their body of work was definitely an Eric Bieniemy style of football, man.”

As for Kelce, the question still remains whether or not he’ll be back on the field in 2026 for a 14th season.

His decision about his playing career will come during the offseason and he had said before the conclusion of the season that he wasn’t sure how long it would take for him to make up his mind.

The Chiefs are coming off a season in which they had their first losing campaign since 2012.
