Sean McVay astonished over two-point conversion call that flipped Rams-Seahawks classic

· New York Post

Rams coach Sean McVay was outraged with referees after his team blew a 16-point lead on “Thursday Night Football.”

The Seahawks scored a touchdown with 6:23 remaining in the fourth quarter to cut the Rams’ lead to 30-28 before attempting a two-point conversion.

Rams defensive end Jared Verse then tipped a Sam Darnold pass, which appeared to simply fall incomplete after deflecting toward the end zone.

Upon further review, though, officials determined that Darnold had thrown a backward lateral, which running back Zach Charbonnet recovered in the end zone for a successful conversion to tie the game.

The Seahawks went on to win 38-37 in overtime of an absolute classic, and McVay didn’t let that one go.

“Very interesting,” McVay said after the game. “Didn’t get a clear explanation of everything that went on just because of some of the timing of it.”

After some defensive stops by both teams, the Rams eventually scored on a Puka Nacua touchdown in overtime before losing on the next possession, with another two-point conversion from the Seahawks proving decisive.

“I’ve never seen anything or never been a part of anything like that,” McVay said of the two-point conversion. “And I’ve grown up around this game. I’m not making excuses. We don’t do that. I don’t believe in that. It doesn’t move us forward, but we do want clarity and an understanding of the things that we can do to minimize that when we rejected the two-point conversion.”

Nacua, who had questioned the integrity of referees during the week, also had some frustration to let out postgame.
