Judd Trump says Kyren Wilson 'isn't the best loser' as Shaun Murphy comments fall flat
by Mark Whiley · Wales OnlineJudd Trump has revealed Kyren Wilson’s comments after the Masters final haven’t gone down well with fellow snooker stars.
Shaun Murphy lifted the Masters trophy for a second time after a superb 10-7 victory over Wilson in Sunday’s thrilling final at Alexandra Palace. After the match, the world champion raised eyebrows by calling Murphy, 42, an “old man” and saying “he needs this more than me”.
Wilson, 33, also suggested some of his rivals were “envious” of his family set-up before promising to “consume so many Jagerbombs tonight and have the best night ever”.
World No.1 Trump, who lost to Wilson in the semi-finals on Saturday, gave his view on the controversial comments as he returned to action at the Championship League this week. The 35-year-old said they did not put Wilson in the best light and that his rival was “not the best loser”.
“I think the first thing everybody said at the Championship League was, ‘Did you watch that?’ said Trump via the Metro. “I don’t think he particularly put himself in good light. I don’t know if it was a private joke, but it doesn’t seem that many people took it that well, from what I’ve read.
"It’s happened a couple of times, he’s not the best loser, but it’s not the worst thing to be hurting like that. It makes you hungrier and you don’t want to let it happen again when you experience that. Everyone will get over it and it’ll be fine."
Trump admitted it was tough knowing what to say after losing in a big final. He added: “There’s a fine line between being honest and trying to keep everyone happy.
“Sometimes it’s better to be a little bit false and say something you don’t really mean, just suck it up to keep everyone happy. It’s something I’ve tried to learn, but it’s so difficult.
“If I feel like I’m unlucky then I say it. If I just feel like I missed balls then I’ll say that. It’s important to say what you feel, you don’t want everyone to turn into puppets. You want some instant reaction, you don’t want to lose the sense of players’ honesty.”
Murphy has also reacted to Wilson’s comments. Speaking on his onefourseven podcast since the weekend, the Magician said: “There was a couple of things he said in the post-match questions which were either slightly unnecessary or maybe said in the wrong way.
"But before we carry on, I will just say this. You have to put yourself in his shoes for a minute – he’s gutted, and your emotions are so high."
