How to watch Liverpool v Southampton on TV today with game not on in UK
by Mathew Davies, Kasra Moradi · Wales OnlineUK football enthusiasts hoping to catch Liverpool's Premier League match against Southampton this Saturday are in for a letdown.
Liverpool, currently leading the league, seem unstoppable with only 10 matches remaining. Unless there's an unexpected downturn, it appears the Reds will be hoisting the trophy come May, marking their first win since the Covid-19 impacted 2019/2020 season.
The Reds are keen to maintain their impressive run as they welcome the Saints at Anfield, having already secured two victories against them this season: one in the league and another in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
Southampton, languishing at the bottom of the table and facing relegation, are bracing themselves for a tough match against Arne Slot's formidable team, especially after suffering 4-0 losses in their last two games against Chelsea and Brighton, reports the Mirror.
Why isn't Liverpool vs Southampton on TV?
The Anfield face-off is one of three Premier League matches kicking off at 3pm on Saturday. TNT Sports chose to broadcast Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City at 12.30pm, while Sky will show Brentford vs Aston Villa at 5.30pm.
Due to the blackout law, the Liverpool fixture will not be televised. This blackout on all English football matches on Saturdays between 2.45pm and 5.15pm has been in place since the 1960s, when television became a common household item.
The fear was that broadcasting the fixtures would decrease match-day stadium attendances.
There are suggestions that UK rules could change when the next TV rights deal ends in 2029. However, despite its unpopularity among some fans, the 3pm rule remains in effect for now, allowing leagues to designate a closed window for broadcasting.
As a result, fans must keep up with the action through other means such as radio, goals shows and social media.

Premier League TV rights holders in other countries are not subject to the same blackout measures, meaning they are free to broadcast the Anfield fixture, provided they have the licence.
For those wishing to watch outside of the UK, the match will be shown via local Premier League TV rights holders such as Germany's Sky Sports Premier League and France's Canal+ Foot.
Supporters in the United States are in luck as long as they have access to NBC Sports (or Peacock), which has rights to all 380 Premier League matches this term. Meanwhile, DAZN will offer coverage in Spain, while beIN Sports Connect will give fans in Turkey, the Middle East and certain African nations the chance to watch.
UK fans will have to hold on until Sky Sports releases highlights shortly after the final whistle. Extended highlights will also be available on BBC One's Match of the Day, which airs at 10:30pm.
