Omer Riza deleted social media after reading comments about Cardiff City result
by Glen Williams · Wales OnlineInterim Cardiff City boss Omer Riza has revealed he deleted his X account after the Bluebirds 1-1 draw with Bristol City because he was getting increasingly irked by the 'white noise'.
Cardiff bossed that game away at Ashton Gate and took the lead thanks to an Ollie Tanner thunderbolt. The Bluebirds looked comfortable up until the final third of the game when substitutions didn't work in Riza's favour.
Cardiff eventually conceded an equaliser and despite playing away in a derby match, it felt like City had lost two points rather than gained one. However, in the greater context of the season, some supporters took to social media to express their anger over what they deemed a missed opportunity.

It did not go unnoticed that in the hours after that result, Riza had deleted his account on X, formerly Twitter, having previously been engaging with Cardiff City content prior to the outpouring of disappointing after that particular match. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.
But Riza believes it has helped him drown out the superfluous chatter around him and his team and it has allowed him to pour all of his focus into his work.
Speaking about his decision to come off the social media platform, Riza said: "I speak to the boys about white noise, sometimes you've just got to take it away to do your job properly. I just felt I was reading stuff all the time that I didn't really need to read.
"It's probably helped me, coming away from it. I can just focus. I'm not being ignorant - I still read stuff, because I think it's good to read stuff, sometimes it can help you. But I decided to come off of it, because it was getting to a point where some of the stuff just made no sense.
"If it made no sense, then why was I reading it? I came off it and felt better for it.
"If you look back over the results now, Bristol City away 1-1, West Brom 0-0, if you win your games at home and draw your games away, I think you're picking up good points. You want to win away, you want to win every game, but it's not always as easy as what people say."

Abuse suffered by footballers has become commonplace in this age of social media. Indeed, Wales and Tottenham star Brennan Johnson is just one example of a player deleting social media owing to the negativity they have been subjected to on it.
Johnson, as it goes, has been in the form of his life in front of goal for club and country since making that decision.
But while Riza admits he's not spoken to the players specifically about how they feel about supporters' reactions towards them on social media, he is conscious of making sure that they are mentally in the right frame of mind and has an eagle-eye for when he thinks players are down.
"I haven't spoken to the players about it," he said of social media. "The only thing I speak to the players about is making sure they're alright. If I catch someone who is not his normal character, I'll pull him.
"I spoke to a few people today, three or four players. Just something I like to do, I think it's important. But regarding social media, I've not actually spoken to them. The world has gone crazy with it."
