Former Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole has given his verdict on Milos Kerkez amid reports the club are closing in on a move for the Bournemouth left-back. The Hungary star has a release clause worth £50million which the Reds are reputedly willing to pay.
The ECHO meanwhile, understands that Liverpool are interested in the 21-year-old but also have other targets on their list as the summer transfer window approaches.
According to the i Paper, initial contact has already been made between clubs but Bournemouth are adamant they will not sell the left-back for less than £40m. Speaking about his Bournemouth future, the defender told Nemzetisport last month: "It wouldn't look bad [working with Szoboszlai at Liverpool], that's for sure.
"But it's too early to talk about something like that. I have big goals with Bournemouth, we still have a lot of games to win, that's the most important thing right now."
Cole meanwhile, has sung high praise of Kerkez, who has been identified as Andy Robertson's long-term replacement.
"Andy Robertson has been a great character for Liverpool over the years, leading the dressing room," he told Paddy Power. "You’re going to have to start thinking about other options in that area though, because Liverpool needs to have the best in the business at every position.
"Andy could come back and have a wonderful season next year, but there’s a constantly revolving door at Anfield. If Milos Kerkez is the best left-back in the league - which I believe he is – and he’s available, all the top clubs will be looking at him and assessing whether he’ll fit in their squad.
"He’s a brilliant player – I watched him play at Newcastle, and he scored a wonderful goal. It’s fantastic recruitment for Bournemouth to get him in, and Liverpool won’t be the only club sniffing around him this summer."
Kerkez has five assists and two goals for Bournemouth in all competitions this season.
He has been a key player for Andoni Iraola, starting in all 29 Premier League games so far this term.
