Liverpool came from behind to claim a hard-earned point at home to high-flying Sunderland on Wednesday evening. A deflected shot from Chemsdine Talbi put the visitors ahead midway through the second half before a Florian Wirtz shot went in off Nordi Mukiele for the equaliser.

The result means Arne Slot's side remain in the top half of the table and have closed the gap on the top four to only two points.

The ECHO was in attendance at Anfield and here we run the rule over the performance of the Liverpool players.

Alisson Becker 6

Clutched a few efforts straight at him first half and turned a Hume shot from range on to the crossbar. Distribution somewhat inconsistent, however.

Joe Gomez 6

Steady enough defensively early on although a little hesitant in times when in possession. Cross created chance for Mac Allister first half but understandably tired a bit after interval. Booked and subbed.

Ibrahima Konate 6

Enjoyed his tussle with the physical Brobbey and kept things simple when on the ball. Got away with one wayward header second half, though.

Virgil van Dijk 6

Left Brobbey in a heap in opening stages and the Sunderland striker largely steered clear after that. Some strong defensive headers but gave ball away for opener which then deflected in off him.

Andy Robertson 6

Energetic showing on his recall and sought to augment attack as often as possible, although not quite as effective second half when linking with Wirtz. Subbed.

Ryan Gravenberch 6

More prominent with his defensive work than creative use of ball before interval. Maybe a little too safe in possession second half.

Alexis Mac Allister 6

Enjoyed plenty of ball before break, happy to stick his foot in and hit post with header, but began to tire the longer the game progressed. Subbed.

Dominik Szoboszlai 7

Some uncharacteristically sloppy moments first half but worked hard to get Liverpool going and twice tested Roefs from range. Shifted to central position second half and was much more influential.

Florian Wirtz 7

Initially floating as the number 10, pressed well and nearly prodded in beyond Roefs before moving to left flank after break and had shot deflected in for equaliser.

Cody Gakpo 6

Plenty of effort again down the left even if quality and variation was occasionally lacking. Subbed.

Alexander Isak 5

Off target with one ambitious effort first half and continues to look better acquainted with this team-mates, and put in good defensive shift. Tactical changes at half-time didn't benefit him, though. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah (for Gakpo 46) 6

Introduced to huge cheers and appeared a player with a point to make before joining the general struggle.

Curtis Jones (for Gomez 65) 7

Slotted in at right-back and sought to provide more attacking threat, and did well to win ball for equaliser.

Hugo Ekitike (for Mac Allister 74) 5

Unable to make any real impact.

Federico Chiesa (for Isak 86)

Legged it back to clear off the line brilliantly from Isidor during injury time.

Milos Kerkez (for Robertson 86)

Got in the way of a Van Dijk header.
