Alisson Becker will miss Liverpool's Premier League match at Brighton & Hove Albion (12.30pm kick-off) with Giorgi Mamardashvili set start in goal.

The Brazilian goalkeeper sat out the 1-0 Champions League defeat at Galatasaray last Tuesday (March 10) with what was described as a minor muscle issue.

But he returned for the 1-1 Premier League draw at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and then played again on Wednesday as Liverpool turned around their first-leg deficit to beat the Turkish side 4-0 at Anfield and progress to the Champions League quarter-finals.

However, Alisson is not part of the travelling contingent for the Reds this weekend after it was decided it was too risky to play their No.1 at the Amex Stadium.

It means Giorgi Mamardashvili is ready to play a game that could be critical to the defending champions' hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Alisson recently had a one-year extension triggered in his Liverpool contract but fitness issues have troubled the keeper in recent years.

The last two full Premier League campaigns have seen him miss 20 games in total, with Caoimhin Kelleher deputising during that time.

Mamardashvili has also featured five times in the league this season after a muscle issue for Alisson in September’s 1-0 group-stage defeat at Galatasaray in the Champions League.

Alisson has reportedly been replaced by Hugo Souza in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the upcoming March international break.
