Liverpool are into the quarter-finals of the Champions League - here's everything you need to know including our reporter's prediction for the PSG tie

As the Champions League moves into the quarter-finals, the stakes couldn't be higher for Arne Slot’s Liverpool as they prepare for a titanic two-legged clash with Paris Saint-Germain. Having navigated a tricky path to the final eight, the Reds now face a PSG side that lifted the trophy last year.

With the first leg set for the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, April 8, before a decisive return to Anfield on April 14, the tie is perfectly poised for another classic European night.

Liverpool enter the first leg in Paris as 11/4 outsiders with bet365 to secure an away victory, while the French champions are priced as 10/11 favourites to take a lead to Merseyside.

Here's everything you need to know about the Champions League knock-out stages for Liverpool in 2026:

The view from Liverpool Echo's Liverpool correspondent, Paul Gorst:

A trip to face the reigning European champions, Paris Saint-Germain, fresh from an abject 4-0 FA Cup defeat at the hands of Manchester City, is the last thing this struggling Liverpool side needs right now.

Question marks exist around this team's mentality, and not without good reason. Arne Slot's men appear fine to a point when the game is locked at 0-0, but at the first sign of a setback, they have shown a tendency to cower. There appear to be few real characters in this current squad capable of standing up to such adversity, making a visit to the Parc des Princes one of the most daunting assignments in world football.

While the travelling supporters will make the journey with hope, there is little genuine expectation of an upset. A positive result in the first leg would be a major shock to most neutrals, but Slot’s side must, at the very least, find a way to keep the tie alive in Paris.

To do that, the performance of Dominik Szoboszlai will be vital; the Hungarian has been a bright spark in an otherwise inconsistent season, recording five goals and four assists in this European campaign. On the opposite side, Liverpool's shaky backline must contend with the explosive Désiré Doué, who has become a focal point for PSG’s attack with his pace and clinical finishing.

Liverpool will have to overcome significant odds to progress to the semi-finals, especially when judging by what has been an enormous, season-long sample size of underwhelming performances. While their best displays this term have arguably been reserved for the Champions League, it’s worth noting that, with the exception of a 1-0 win over Real Madrid, they have yet to face a team possessing the quality of this PSG outfit.

Based on current form, the Ligue 1 giants look like the heavy favourites to reach the last four, and it is likely that Liverpool’s European journey will reach its conclusion here. In fact, such is the strength of Luis Enrique’s squad that PSG should now be considered the frontrunners to retain their Champions League crown.

Liverpool's potential route to the Champions League final:

Quarter-finals: Paris Saint-Germain

Semi-finals: Real Madrid or Bayern Munich

Final: Arsenal, Sporting CP, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid
