Liverpool continued their defence of the League Cup with an impressive 3-2 fourth round win at Brighton on Wednesday evening. Cody Gakpo scored twice and Luis Diaz also netted as the Reds reached the quarter-finals for the fourth successive season.

A heavily-rotated Liverpool side saw eight changes from the team that drew in the Premier League at Arsenal at the weekend, but were still able to extend their impressive start to the campaign under new head coach Arne Slot.

And the ECHO was at the Amex Stadium to run the rule over the Liverpool players.

Vitezslav Jaros 9

Important stop early on to deny Lamptey bettered by superb stop to keep out Adingra header. Comfortable with ball at his feet and confident in all aspects. Great showing.

Conor Bradley 6

A couple of strong forward runs early on but largely stuck to defensive duties. Some difficulties with Adingra and Mitoma second half, however.

Joe Gomez 6

Quiet first half other than one moment of difficulty up against the speedy Lamptey. Experience needed as Brighton pressed heavily after interval.

Jarell Quansah 5

Kept it simple before the break with Brighton having only limited forward forays but stood up strong after that until poor mistake allowed home side back into game. Unlucky to deflect home second, though. Subbed.

Andy Robertson 6

Mixed bag first half with some hesitant defending allied to strong attacking, leading to one shot saved by Steele at near post. Part in opener and good defending at far post later on.

Wataru Endo 6

Very rusty during opening 10 minutes but settled after that with usual brand of energetic midfield play. Careless at times, however. Booked and subbed.

Tyler Morton 6

Safe enough in possession and began to grow into the game and not afraid to put his foot in. Will have benefited from minutes. Subbed.

Dominik Szoboszlai 7

Ostensibly the furthest forward central player in a box midfield, plenty of energy and one shot saved first half. Shot saved on counter after break and good engine. Subbed.

Curtis Jones 7

Neat enough just behind Szoboszlai before interval and ability to carry ball became useful as Liverpool looked to see out advantage.

Cody Gakpo 9

Saw plenty of ball in opening quarter but too often frustrated by lack of options. Cut loose after break with two blistering strikes. Subbed.

Luis Diaz 7

Occasional flurry down the right first half before popping up in middle with header wide on rebound from Szoboszlai effort. Greater appetite after interval and fine individual goal. Subbed.

Alexis Mac Allister (for Morton 64) 6

Took a while to adjust to the pace of the game with Brighton pressing.

Trey Nyoni (for Endo 64) 7

Some promising moments during a confident showing.

Mohamed Salah (for Gakpo 71) 6

Didn’t really see much of the ball during his cameo.

Darwin Nunez (for Szoboszlai 71) 6

Set up one chance for Nyoni.

Ibrahima Konate (for Quansah 90+1)

Just enough time to be booked.
