Liverpool have confirmed the departure of set-piece coach Aaron Briggs by mutual consent. Briggs has left Anfield amid growing criticism of the Reds' set-piece output this season which has hampered attempts to defend their Premier League title.

Arne Slot's side have conceded 12 goals from dead-ball situations in 18 top-flight games this season while scoring from only three, with the resultant balance of minus nine their worst in at any stage of a campaign in Premier League history.

Liverpool therefore felt an intervention in the area was required with both the club and Briggs reaching an agreement over his exit.

However, the ECHO understands the club and head coach Slot are adamant the change in the coaching staff should not be seen as a "silver bullet" that will now address the issue, with work ongoing to provide a collective solution.

Briggs, who formed part of Slot's coaching staff in the summer of 2024, was an integral part in working behind the scenes to help the Reds claim a record-equalling 20th title during the Dutchman's first season in charge last term.
