Liverpool transfer news and gossip with the latest on Alexander Isak's situation at Newcastle United

Alexander Isak remains a player of interest heading into the final weeks of the summer transfer window. Liverpool are heavily linked with the Sweden international, who is believed to be keen on a move to Anfield.
However, Newcastle are adamant he is not for sale and turned down a £110million bid from the Reds. The ECHO has previously reported that, as things stand, the Reds do not intend to make a second offer for the 25-year-old.
Coincidentally, Liverpool’s next fixture is a Monday night clash with Newcastle on August 25 (8pm kick-off). A lot can happen before then, and it remains to be seen whether Isak will be reintegrated into the Magpies' squad.
Here, the ECHO brings you all the latest surrounding Isak.
Newcastle fans makes feelings clear
Following the goalless draw with Aston Villa at Villa Park, the travelling supporters voiced their feelings with a chant.
"Only one greedy *******," was loudly chanted by their supporters, leaving no doubt about their frustration with the striker
When asked about the chants after the game, Newcastle boss Howe commented: "Yeah, I think it is. We never doubted the supporters would be right behind us.
"At the end of the game it's always a beautiful moment for me to go over to the supporters. I’m not going to have a big opinion on [the chants]. The supporters supported the team which is my big ask, which they have done unbelievably well.
"If they want to say something afterwards, they are free to do that."
Howe 'hopeful'
Howe maintained there is still time for Isak to be reintegrated into the Newcastle squad, urging the striker to ‘decide what he wants to do
"The door is well and truly open," Howe told reporters after the game. "He has to decide what he wants to do. We would like a resolution. The ownership, the players, we need that clarity.
"I’m not in control of that, it’s one person really that can control that. Players have managed to shut that out and perform. We have to continue to do that. We have to cope without the narrative against us."
Isak's 'view'
The Athletic's David Ornstein provided more detail on Isak's future. "In his mind, the Newcastle chapter is over, and even if a deal is not done to secure his departure before the transfer window closes, his mind is not in the place of being reintegrated into Eddie Howe's squad," he told NBC Sports on Friday.
"So that is a pretty drastic development in all of this. What we know is that Newcastle have no intention of selling him, they have been clear and consistent in that for some time. He is under contract, a very lucrative one, until the summer of 2028. However, they are looking for replacements for the event of him leaving. We know that Liverpool have made an offer of £110m, it was rejected immediately and they have not come back since. But their interest is ongoing and they would be ready to if they received encouragement, should Newcastle get their replacements.
"What we also learn now is that despite Newcastle's stance and Alexander Isak seemingly being content and happy at Newcastle toward the end of last season, we now know that two weeks before the end of the season, he told Eddie Howe personally that he wanted to leave this summer. In his mind, he also let Newcastle know about his intentions as long as a year ago, when they said to him there would be no new contracts because of their attempts to comply with Financial Fair Play and Profit & Sustainability.
Ornstein continued: "Also, the fact that he earns so much already and, at that point, he was under contract until 2028 for four more years. People around Newcastle that I speak to deny that and say that's not true. He was also open, in our mind, to talk about it at the end of the season and maybe even signing a new contract. It's got very messy, it's clearly emotional for the fanbase and I respect them hugely. This is a difficult period, but Alexander Isak hasn't played a pre-season friendly, he's not going to be playing for Newcastle at Aston Villa.
"We're going to have to wait and see if something gives on this. Maybe after the teams play, there could be a resolution one way or the other when they face each other on August 25th. I can't say which way it's going to go, it feels in the balance and we're going to have to see how it plays out, but he [Isak] certainly wants that move to Liverpool."
Agent's comments
When asked last month for an update on his client’s future amid interest from Saudi Arabia, Isak’s agent Gonzalo Gaitan said: "We are indeed studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player.
"Without revealing any details regarding whether Isak will transfer or stay with Newcastle.”
Reds' 'stance'
Journalist Ben Jacobs believes that Liverpool will only re-enter talks with Newcastle over a potential Isak deal if they believe an agreement is achievable.
The Reds saw a bid of approximately £110million turned down earlier in the summer and would only be prepared to return with another bid if Newcastle's stance softens.
"Liverpool if they’re back (in talks with Newcastle) are only coming to collect Alexander Isak, they’re not coming to be speculative, they’re not coming for a back and forth," Jacobs told the Born N' Red podcast.
"Liverpool are only going to come back to the table if they know that this (Isak) is happening. If there is a development club-to-club, I think Liverpool fans can get very excited, very quickly."
