Aaron Rodgers Gets Emotional With Ex-Teammate After Steelers Win

· The Fresno Bee

On Monday, December 15, Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers pulled off a much-needed win over the Miami Dolphins at home, with a 28-15 final score.

The win keeps the Steelers’ playoff hopes alive, and after the night was over, Pittsburgh walked out of the stadium with a 61% chance of making the postseason, according to NFL research. The 6-8 Dolphins have been eliminated from playoff contention.

The Steelers have an 8-6 record after the win and are No. 1 in the AFC North, leading the Ravens by a game. While the win drew attention, what happened after the game also caused a few eyeballs to look towards Rodgers and maybe even tear up.

Miami Dolphins cornerback Rasul Douglas used to play football with Rodgers when both players were part of the Green Bay Packers from 2021 to 2023. So, they saw each other at the game, and even though they were on opposing teams this time around, there was nothing but love between these two players.

After the game, cameras captured Rodgers and Douglas sharing an emotional moment. “Rasul Douglas showing his former teammate love and Aaron Rodgers shares it right back,” the NFL posted on X, with a red heart emoji.

The clip shows Rodgers giving his postgame interview but getting interrupted, in the best way, by Douglas. After the two hugged, Rodgers went back to doing his interview and said that Douglas was one of his “favorite teammates” and was “huge” for the Packers in 2021. He also said that Douglas was a guy who “never gave up after he was counted out and cut and put on practice squads.”

Winning over Miami was a feather in the Steelers’ cap, but Jason Owens of Yahoo Sports warns that more needs to be done. “Of course, beating up on a Dolphins team on its way out of the playoff race is not going to quell the concerns swirling around this team,” he stated in a postgame feature. That will require making the playoffs and finding success once they're there. The Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since the 2016 season.”

But, he adds that it “certainly enough to instill some confidence for the stretch run of the season.”
