North Carolina Makes School History In NCAA Tournament Win Over San Diego State
by Matt Wadleigh · The Fresno BeeThe North Carolina Tar Heels were the final team in the Field of 68. As such, it sparked plenty of controversy as they got the last spot instead of teams such as West Virginia, Indiana and Boise State.
On Tuesday, 11-seed North Carolina had no issues whatsoever in the First Four game against San Diego State. North Carolina cruised to a 95-68 blowout victory in Dayton to move on to face No. 6 Ole Miss on Friday.
North Carolina was up 47-23 at halftime as Hubert Davis' team came out firing on all cylinders.
As it turns out, North Carolina set a school record in the process, per ESPN's Adam Rittenberg.
"North Carolina moves on after making an NCAA tournament record 14 3-pointers in a 95-68 win over San Diego State in the First Four."
North Carolina finished with a 14-of-24 clip from three-point land with RJ Davis going a perfect 6-for-6 from beyond the arc.
Ian Jackson chipped in three off the bench, although it was Dante Mayo Jr.'s last-minute three-point shot that broke the record.
It was a strong night overall for North Carolina, who dealt with tons of criticism after being selected for the Big Dance.
Now, North Carolina faces Chris Beard and Ole Miss on Friday.
