NBA draft lottery: Which team will get Cooper Flagg with No. 1 pick?

by · The Fresno Bee

Anticipation is building for Monday’s NBA draft lottery.

Duke freshman Cooper Flagg is widely regarded as the most prized prospect in this year’s draft. The Kings are one of 14 teams with a chance to secure the No. 1 pick, but the odds are not in Sacramento’s favor.

The Kings have the 13th-best lottery odds after going 40-42 to finish ninth in the Western Conference. They have a 3.8% chance of securing one of the top four picks in the draft, which will be held June 25-26.

The lottery will decide which teams receive the top four picks in the draft. The 10 remaining lottery teams will make their selections from No. 5 to No. 14 in inverse order of their records during the 2024-25 season.

Sacramento has a 0.8% chance at the No. 1 pick, a 0.9% chance at the No. 2 pick, a 1.0% chance at the No. 3 pick and a 1.1% chance at the No. 4 pick. The Kings will receive the 13th or 14th pick if they don’t move into the top four, but in that case their top-12 protected first-round pick will be conveyed to the Atlanta Hawks to complete the 2022 trade that brought Kevin Huerter to Sacramento.

The Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets have the best lottery odds with a 14% chance of being awarded the No. 1 pick. They are followed by the New Orleans Hornets (12.5%), Philadelphia 76ers (10.5%), Brooklyn Nets (9%), Toronto Raptors (7.5%), San Antonio Spurs (6%), Phoenix Suns (3.8%), Portland Trail Blazers (3.7%), Dallas Mavericks (1.8%), Chicago Bulls (1.7%), Kings (0.8%) and Hawks (0.7%).

Flagg, 18, is widely projected as the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft. The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.4 steals to lead Duke to the NCAA Tournament’s Final Four.

Other players projected as top five picks include Rutgers combo guard Dylan Harper, Rutgers small forward Ace Bailey, Baylor shooting guard V.J. Edgecombe and Texas shooting guard Tre Johnson.
