JPJ suspends online vehicle ownership transfer after complaints of transactions without owners’ knowledge

The road transport department (JPJ) has suspended online vehicle ownership transfer effective today, May 25, 2026, the department has announced. The suspension covers all digital platforms including its public portal, kiosks, and service providers including MyEG and eAuto Sdn Bhd, the JPJ said in a statement.

The decision to suspend online vehicle ownership transfer was taken as the JPJ had received complaints, including on social media, that ownership transfers had been carried out without the knowledge of registered owners, and the department takes the matter seriously, especially those involving maintenance records and the safety of vehicles registered in the system, it stated.

As such, all ownership transfer transactions for individual and private company vehicles must be carried out at JPJ counters, the statement continued.

For transfer of individual ownership, transactions can be completed on the same day at all JPJ state and branch offices, while ownership transfers for private companies will take five to seven working days upon the complete submission of documents.

Only the temporary ownership transfer system (STMS) continues to be operational through the eAuto channel, however the permanent ownership transfer system through the eSerahan Tukar Milik (eSTM) has been suspended, and all parties including used car dealers must have permanent ownership transfer applications carried out at physical JPJ offices, the department stated.
