Kylian Mbappe leaves France national team to treat ankle injury
by Alex Butler · UPINov. 14 (UPI) -- Kylian Mbappe left the French national team to return to Real Madrid for scans on his injured ankle, the French Football Federation announced Friday.
Mbappe scored twice in a 4-0 win over Ukraine in a World Cup qualifier Thursday in Paris. The star striker played for the entire match to help France clinch a spot in the tournament.
"Kylian Mbappe is still experiencing inflammation in his right ankle, which requires further examination," France said. "He will undergo these tests today in Madrid."
France said Eduardo Camavinga and Manu Kone also will not travel with the team for its flight Friday to Baku, where it will face Azerbaijan in another World Cup qualifier.
Kone, who received a yellow card against Ukraine, is suspended for the match. Camavinga sustained a muscle strain in his left hamstring.
Azerbaijan will host France at noon EST Sunday in Baku. Real Madrid will take on Elche in a La Liga match at 3 p.m. Nov. 23 in Elche, Spain. They will meet Olympiacos in a Champions League match Nov. 26 in Piraeus, Greece.
