Aug. 18 (UPI) -- The Indianapolis Colts agreed to a one-year contract with free agent wide receiver Keenan Allen, the six-time Pro Bowler confirmed on social media.

Allen's pact is worth up to $8.2 million. The 34-year-old playmaker spent 12 of his first 13 seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, including his 2025 campaign.

The Chargers' all-time receptions leader totaled 81 catches for 777 yards and four scores over 17 appearances last season. He logged 70 catches for 744 yards and seven scores over 15 appearances in 2024 for the Chicago Bears.

Allen is set to join a Colts wide receivers room that features Alec Pierce, Josh Downs, Ashton Dulin, Laquon Treadwell, Anthony Gould and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, among others.

Pierce, the Colts' top option, missed the start of training camp and remains sidelined as he recovers from off-season ankle surgery. Coach Shane Steichen said "not right now," when asked Sunday if he expects Pierce to return for joint practices this week with the Atlanta Falcons.

Steichen and the Colts split with Michael Pittman Jr., their 2025 receptions leader, through an off-season trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Colts owned the No. 9 passing game in the NFL last season, despite playing without injured starting quarterback Daniel Jones for four games.

Allen's 1,055 career receptions are the most among active wide receivers and trail only tight end Travis Kelce among all players. He ranks fifth in receiving yards and seventh in receiving scores among active players.

The Colts will host the Atlanta Falcons in their second preseason game at 1 p.m. EDT Saturday in Indianapolis. They will host the Detroit Lions in their preseason finale Aug. 29 at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Colts will host the Baltimore Ravens in their regular-season opener Sept. 13 in Indianapolis.
