Douglas Luiz and Juventus are 'completely broken' as Aston Villa rivals eye transfer

by · Birmingham Live

Douglas Luiz's time at Juventus looks set to be coming to an end after the player failed to show for pre-season training ahead of the new Serie A season - and everything points to the former Aston Villa midfielder returning to England and to the Premier League this summer.

Brazilian international Luiz left Villa after five years last summer, joining Juve in a deal worth around £42m, but despite fruitful and goal laden his spell at Villa was, considering he mostly operated from a deep midfield berth, Luiz failed to produce those goals and assists for the Old Lady.

Luiz only started three league games last term and it's been claimed that new boss Igor Tudor has no plans involving the player heading into next season. A transfer back to England, therefore, was already on the cards - but even more so now with relationships breaking down after Luiz's unauthorised absence this week.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that the relationship between Luiz, who has been linked with Manchester United, Everton, Leeds United, West Ham, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, and Juve is 'completely broken' and an exit will now be accelerated.

"Douglas Luiz wants to go back to the Premier League," Romano said on his YouTube channel. "He didn't show up for pre-season training with Juventus on Thursday. The relationship between Juventus and the player is completely broken, it's over.

"First of all Juventus will take disciplinary measures for Douglas Luiz. He is expected to face a fine and a difficult situation at Juventus, who are not happy at all with his behaviour. The player wants to go.

"There are many opportunities in England. There are many clubs who are aware of the situation. They were waiting for Juventus to fix a price and a deal was quite slow, but after what happened this week - and with the agent of the player in Italy to speak to the player and to Juventus - I expect more clubs to start working on the conditions for a deal.

"Keep an eye on Douglas Luiz, because it could be an important opportunity on the market - the player was wanted in January by Man United, by Chelsea, but neither club decided to advance on a deal. This summer he is an interesting name to keep an eye on."
