Aston Villa and Monchi handed clear instruction for their next move after Jhon Duran statement

Morgan Rogers has impressed for Aston Villa since joining the club from Middlesbrough back in January

by · Birmingham Live

Aston Villa fans voted overwhelmingly that Morgan Rogers is the next player who deserves to be handed a new contract.

The 21-year-old has been in fine form so far this season after he made great strides in his development under Unai Emery last term. He joined the club from Middlesbrough in a deal worth an initial £8m, which could rise to £15m in add-ons.

He has started all seven Premier League games this term and both of Villa's Champions League matches against BSC Young Boys and Bayern Munich. Considering Rogers will likely be one of the lowest earners in Unai Emery's first-team squad and the rate of his progression in recent months, 78 per cent of fans who took part in our big Villa survey voted that he should be next in line to earn a new deal.

Villa striker Jhon Duran was the last player to be given a new contract, as he committed his future to the club until 2030. The news was announced the day after Villa's 0-0 draw with Manchester United at Villa Park.

Duran has been in electric form this season, scoring four Premier League goals and the winners against Bayern Munich earlier this month. He also bagged his second goal for Colombia on Tuesday night in their 4-0 win over Chile.

He has averaged a goal every 46 minutes so far this league season having scored four times in just 184 minutes of action. It is the best minutes-per-goal ratio of anyone to feature for at least 90 minutes this term.
