Man United weigh up swap deal as Aston Villa consider Marcus Rashford transfer option

by · Birmingham Live

Marcus Rashford's future will come under the spotlight once again in the summer following the culmination of his loan spell with Aston Villa - and there would appear to be a number of options on the table, from further afield, for the forward.

Rashford has made an impact in the early weeks of his time at Villa Park; having caught the eye on his debut from the bench against Tottenham in the FA Cup, he helped to inspire Villa to a response after they'd fallen behind to Ipswich last weekend. Then, in the week, he was rewarded with a start against Liverpool.

The England international, who has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford under new boss Ruben Amorim, who granted him a January transfer window departure, will leave United in a tricky predicament in the summer; if he has no future at the club, they will have to find a suitor for Rashford who can afford his sizeable salary.

Rashford has three years remaining on his United contract and, although Villa have an option to sign him permanently in the summer for around £40m - a decision they'll have to make once the season ends and they have a clear picture of how Rashford has fared - there is talk that a switch to Germany could be on the cards.

Reports suggest that United are keen on Aleksandar Pavlovic, of serial Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, who have in recent years dipped into the English player market to sign the likes of Harry Kane and Eric Dier.

The midfielder is Munich born and bred and has been at Bayern since he was a child, coming through the club's academy and rising into the first-team environment. Having initially represented Bayern's II team, Pavlovic broke into the first team under Thomas Tuchel last season and has regularly featured this year under Vincent Kompany, too.

United are eager to bring the 20-year-old midfielder to the club and are willing to offer Rashford in any deal, but Villa are likely to have a say one way or the other on where the attacker's long-term future lies once this campaign concludes.
