Fulham boss highlights Matheus Cunha 'problem' as Wolves hero hails ‘beautiful goals’
by Keith Wales, Reuben Rosso-Powell, PA · Birmingham LiveMatheus Cunha hailed his two goals in Wolves’ 4-1 Premier League demolition of Fulham at Craven Cottage as the best brace of his career.
The Brazilian forward exquisitely controlled a long pass on his foot before chipping Fulham keeper Bernd Leno to draw Gary O’Neil’s men level in the first half after Alex Iwobi had opened the scoring for the hosts.
Cunha then set up Joao Gomes before scoring a long-range effort for Wolves’ third, with Goncalo Guedes coming off the bench to pile on the misery for Fulham in the closing stages.
“I think they are the best two goals I’ve scored in the same game. They were two very good, beautiful goals in the middle of the game.” Cunha told the Wolves website.
“You don’t think about the quality of the goals, you know, all you want to do is to score and help the team. But of course, now I’m a little bit calmer, I think it was two unbelievable decisions for me and I’m happy with these kinds of things.”
The victory was a second in a row for Wolves following their 2-0 win over Southampton before the international break. Cunha says they now need to keep up their newly-found form ahead of a packed December.
“How we started the season was not how we wanted, but of course we need to keep going like this in the future,” he added.
“We did the work, we did the details and now we’re four games without losing, with two draws and two wins, so we can start to be happy.”
Fulham boss Marco Silva admitted he was not surprised by Cunha’s quality to make the difference.
“He’s a good example, it doesn’t surprise me because they have individual quality. I know what they’re capable of doing and they have players like Cunha who is a very good striker and has a very good impact in the way they play,” Silva said.
“He never gives up and with all the balls, he fights, he can attack in behind and create problems for the back four. He’s a good example of the quality they have.”
