Aston Villa set Jhon Duran transfer fee 'few teams' can afford

by · Birmingham Live

Borussia Dortmund have balked at the fee Aston Villa are demanding for in-form striker Jhon Duran.

That’s according to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra who says Villa have told the Bundesliga outfit they want €85million, around £71m, for the 21-year-old who had dislodged Ollie Watkins as Unai Emery’s first choice centre forward.

That was until the former Chicago Fire man was shown a red card and banned for three games following an incident with Fabian Schar in the loss to Newcastle United on Boxing Day.

Sierra says Dortmund will not go that high and while he adds that Duran is interesting several clubs there are only ‘a few teams’ who can afford him. Duran’s name continues to be linked with other clubs despite the fact that after more than a year struggling to find his way into the Villa first team he has finally managed to do so.

He was connected with a move to Chelsea and West Ham in the summer but stayed put and in October signed a contract extension until 2030. He has scored 12 goals in 26 matches so far this term and has been a regular in the Champions League.

It is that form which has seen him once again linked with Chelsea but also with Barcelona and PSG.

Villa are known to be in talks with Dortmund over the future of Dutch international winger Donyell Malen, who is said to have agreed personal terms on the move while he awaits the clubs to agree a fee.
