Perfect Nigeria send Onyango's Uganda packing

Nigeria maintained a perfect start in Group C at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a 3-1 victory over Uganda on Tuesday.

Super Eagles retained Victor Osimhen, Calvin Bassey, Bruno Onyemaechi from the win over Tunisia, as their spot in the Last 16 was already confirmed.

The Cranes, who maintained veteran Denis Onyango in goal, were up against it and trailed at halftime through Paul Onuachu.

Onyango came unstuck after the break and was unable to continue and made way for Salim Magoola.

The Richards Bay goalkeeper's time was short-lived though, as he committed a handball outside his area and receive a straight red card, leaving AlionI Nafian to come on.

Nigeria made full use of the man advantage and struck twice in quick succession through Raphael Onyedika.

The Cranes got one back late on when Rogers Mato beat the offside trap and finished off a through ball.

Nigeria were able to run down the final stages and comfortably claimed the all honours of the group.

Tanzania 1-1 Tunisia

Tunisia secured second spot in Group C following a 1-1 draw against Tanzania.

Taifa Stars welcomed back Mbwana Samatta up top and Hussein Masalanga in goal, while Tunisia gave rare starts to Achouri and Mastouri.

The Carthage Eagles snatched the lead albeit from the penalty spot by Ismael Gharbi after a foul by Ibrahim Hamad.

Miguel Gamondi’s boys rallied back two minutes in the second half courtesy of a finely taken finish by Faisal Salum.

Both teams went at each other in the final minutes in the hope of the winner, but 1-1 it finished as the Carthage Eagles marched to the last 16.
