'Let them swim with the sharks' - Pitso on Bafana's new players in Egypt friendly
by Siya Ndlela · KickOffBafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has delivered his verdict on some of the newer faces that were handed a chance in the national team as South Africa defeated Egypt in an international friendly.
Puso Dithejane's solitary goal was enough to secure an impressive 1-0 victory against Egypt at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday.
After a run of competitive fixtures, Mosimane opted for tactical courage, making wholesale rotations to test South Africa's emerging talent against elite continental opposition.

'Jingles' used the high-profile friendly in Cairo to test his squad's depth, resting senior core members like Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis. Despite an initially nervous start, Mosimane’s fringe starlets rose to the occasion.
The game's defining moment arrived in the 50th minute when Shandre Campbell provided a precise, dangerous delivery into the box, allowing debutant winger Puso Dithejane to break the deadlock with a brilliant finish past the Egyptian goalkeeper.
The changes Pitso made to Bafana vs Egypt
The tactical masterstroke saw Mosimane make nine wholesale changes to the lineup that previously dominated the qualifiers.
Overhauling his entire starting structure to assess fresh talent, the former Al Ahly mentor handed rare international starts to defenders Lebone Seema, Khulumani Ndamane, Thabang Matuludi, and Fawaaz Basadien. In addition, Shandre Campbell and goalscorer Puso Dithejane were thrown straight into the attacking vanguard, while Olwethu Makhanya was later deployed out of position to reinforce a depleted midfield heavily hit by injuries.
Between the sticks, Sipho Chaine stepped up as the preferred shot-stopper over Ricardo Goss to safeguard a historic clean sheet
Pitso's verdict on new players at Bafana
Reflecting on his decision to blood youngsters and fringe players in a hostile away environment, a proud Mosimane noted that he threw his players into the deep end and they proved they belong at the highest level.
"I let them swim with the sharks, threw them in the deep end. Yeah, they swam, hey?" Mosimane stated post-match.
"It was a little bit difficult. You see, the first five minutes, we could not find our feet. It's normal because we brought the younger ones. We changed the whole team,” Mosimane said after the match, as per SAFA media.
"As the game progressed, we started to gain confidence, but what I like is that they are not afraid to play, and we need to give them a chance. I let them swim with the sharks, throw them in the deep end, and they swam."
"Seema, big game he played. We have to put Ndamane there. Matuludi has been there, and it's also good to bring back Basadien.
"We were a little bit thin in the midfield. I had to play Makhanya in the midfield at the end, but it's part of football; you've got to do what you've got to do. We were under a lot of pressure, more balls in our box, crosses. But I know Egyptian football, so we prepared a lot, because a ball will always come from the fullbacks."
