Zamalek make ‘early call’ on Chiefs clash

With the international break concluding, continental club football is set to take centre stage once again, with the first group-stage matches of both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup getting underway this weekend.

The 2023/24 Confederation Cup winners, Zamalek, have been drawn in Group D alongside Zambian giants ZESCO United, fellow Egyptian side Al Masry, and Amakhosi.
Although Zamalek will host ZESCO in their first group game on Sunday in Cairo, the club already appear to have one eye on their second game against Chiefs.
According to Egyptian daily newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm, the club's board of directors, headed by Hussein Labib, have decided they will travel to South Africa four days before the match against the Soweto giants.
The decision to fly to South Africa on 25 November has reportedly been made so that the players and staff can acclimatise to the playing conditions well in advance of the fixture.

It is also reported that the Egyptian giants are aware that the atmosphere could pose a few challenges, given that kick-off will be at 15:00.
The Zamalek v Chiefs encounter will be played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on 29 November.
