The story
The 2025 SA Rugby Awards took place in Cape Town on Thursday evening, with Marx stealing the show after being named the 2025 SA Rugby Men’s Player of the Year.

The achievement capped off a stellar year for the 31-year-old, as the Springboks hooker is also the current holder of the World Rugby Men’s Player of the Year award.
Impressively, Marx becomes only the 10th Springbok to win the SA Rugby Men’s Player of the Year award more than once, joining current Boks teammates such as Eben Etzebeth and Du Toit.
Etzebeth won the prize on back-to-back occasions in 2022 and 2023, while Du Toit claimed it three times in 2016, 2018 and 2019.
Duane Vermeulen, who retired after winning the 2023 Rugby World Cup, is also a multiple winner of the award, having done so in 2014 and 2020.
In 2013, Springboks captain Jean de Villiers won the award for the second time, following up on his 2008 triumph, notably becoming the first player to win the trophy as captain.
Other multiple winners include Fourie du Preez and Bryan Habana.
