Basadien reveals what inspired his revival at Sundowns

The 29-year-old left-back signed for Masandawana from Stellenbosch FC in July 2025 amid high expectations, but faced a heavily frustrating debut campaign.
Basadien's tough start to life at Sundowns
Trapped in a ruthless pecking order, he struggled to secure regular minutes, as head coach Miguel Cardoso heavily preferred Bafana Bafana international Aubrey Modiba to command the left-back slot.

This extended spell on the sidelines had severe consequences for the talented fullback, who subsequently fell completely out of Hugo Broos' national team setup and missed the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, the current campaign has brought an entirely different narrative for the defender. Since the start of the season, Basadien has featured in six matches across all competitions, establishing himself as one of Chloorkop's standout performers.
Speaking to the club's media, Basadien revealed that a positive mindset and resilience have been the factors pushing his revival.
"I think it’s just a matter of consistency as well as the belief I showed throughout my time since I arrived here," Basadien said.
"It hasn’t been the start I wanted to have, but with my belief, my positive mindset, and positive attitude, that’s what kept me going. Eventually, when given a chance, I had to step up and take it, and I think I did that.
"It is a matter of just consistent performances now to maintain that level and even increase that level," he added.

Miguel Cardoso throws support behind Basadien
His turnaround has not gone unnoticed by the technical team, earning him glowing praise from head coach Miguel Cardoso, who publicly lauded his magnificent start to the new campaign.
While the left-back was not included in Pitso Mosimane's preliminary squad for the latest international round, he will undoubtedly be keeping one eye firmly fixed on a Bafana Bafana recall.
