WrestleMania 42 live results from Night 1: Pat McAfee ‘removed’ from Allegiant Stadium on stretcher

by · Las Vegas Review-Journal

The doors are open for WrestleMania 42 at Allegiant Stadium and the fans are starting to file in for what should be an eventful evening.

Media star Pat McAfee has thrown a wrench into the festivities with his return as a heel and will be in Randy Orton’s corner for the main event of night one.

Orton will challenge Cody Rhodes for the undisputed WWE title in the main event with the stipulation that McAfee will leave the pro wrestling industry if Orton loses the match.

The event will kick off with a six-man tag match pitting Logan Paul and Austin Theory, along with internet personality IShowSpeed, against The Usos and L.A. Knight.

This is the third WrestleMania to take place in Las Vegas and the second consecutive at Allegiant Stadium.

Pat McAfee returns, can’t save Randy Orton

Media personality and former NFL punter Pat McAfee returned to the ring nearly 30 minutes after he was supposed to have been taken out in a stretcher, but his interference on behalf of Randy Orton still wasn’t enough to wrestle the belt from Cody Rhodes.

Orton’s vision was obstructed by an eye poke when he took out the match’s referee before landing a crushing blow on Rhodes. But there was nobody to count the pin.

Re-enter McAfee, who came running back to the ring in a neck brace, but only counted to two before Rhodes kicked out.

After a chaotic series of events that included Orton hitting McAfee with an RKO, Rhodes was able to pin Orton just as the original referee came to his senses and delivered the three count.

Orton, however, proceeded to deliver a beatdown of Rhodes in the ring as the broadcast went off the air, bashing Rhodes in the head with his own belt.

Rhodes remained down in the ring for several minutes after the feed had cut off.

NFL punter turned media personality Pat McAfee’s role as the advisor and hype man for Randy Orton in the main event of night one of WrestleMania hit a snag early.

McAfee, who has played the ultimate heel in the storyline, was smashed through the announce table by singer Jelly Roll after a chaotic several minutes before the match even officially began.

After McAfee assisted Orton by attacking Rhodes in the ring before the opening bell, Rhodes turned the tide and dispatched of Orton before returning his focus to McAfee.

He eventually slammed McAfee on the broadcast table and Jelly Roll, who has been part of the storyline building up to the match, jumped from one table to another to deliver an elbow that broke the table and sent McAfee to the arena floor rolling in pain.

A crew of supposed medical personnel made a dramatic production of getting McAfee on a stretcher and wheeling him backstage as the crowd cheered his pain and broke into a “You deserve it” chant.

The match officially began after a brief delay and is ongoing.

Attendance officially down

Rumors of gloom and doom about the attendance for this year’s WrestleMania have persisted for weeks.

They have even been part of several WWE storylines.

While the official number is certainly down from last year, a pretty sizeable crowd turned out for the first night.

“There’s been a lot of speculation, but Vegas is the perfect city and I will bet the over,” host John Cena said before announcing 50,816 fans were in attendance on Saturday night.

Last year’s first night drew 58,538 fans.

Cena had to amend the 2026 number moments later when Bianca Belair walked to the ring to reveal a baby bump as the reason she was not participating in WrestleMania.

“So now it’s 50,817,” Cena said.

The interaction came just after Liv Morgan claimed the women’s title by pinning Stephanie Vaquer with plenty of outside assistance from Racquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez.

Stephanie Vaquer in “Trouble?”

Liv Morgan walked to the ring for her Women’s World Championship match against champion Stephanie Vaquer with a live-action music video for her new single, “Trouble.”

More accurately, she danced to the ring.

Morgan had a full crew of backup dancers and went through an entire routine as she made her way down the ramp, at one point allowing the group to tear off her clothes to reveal her wrestling attire.

The entrance was gaudy, though it was far more impressive than the song.

Breakker Bad

Bron Breakker is back from injury and appears to have immediately rekindled his rivalry with former partner Seth Rollins.

Breakker sprinted down the Allegiant Stadium ramp and built up a full head of steam before hitting Rollins with a spear on the side of the ring.

The interference eventually led to Gunther choking out Rollins, just as Jey Uso did to Gunther at last year’s WrestleMania.

As Rollins tried to hobble back up the ramp to the locker room after the loss, Breakker returned in a full sprint once again and hit Rollins with yet another spear at full speed.

Their rivalry is officially renewed.

Turning back the clock

Paige, Brie Bella and Becky Lynch all left Allegiant Stadium as champions on Saturday night.

Lynch won the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship by pinning A.J. Lee after squabbling with the referee.

On several occasions, the referee stepped in to stop Lynch from attempting dangerous and illegal moves, prompting Lynch to get in her face and exchange shoves. Lynch then pulled her in Lee’s path, causing a collision that led to the match-ending sequence.

Somehow, the referee ignored all the shenanigans and awarded Lynch the title.

Brie Bella and Paige, who filled in for Brie’s injured sister Nikki, won the fatal four-way match to capture the women’s tag team titles.

Paige is back

News broke in just the last 24 hours of former WWE star Paige returning to the organization and there was no time wasted putting her to work.

Nikki Bella came out on crutches to announce she had not been medically cleared to compete with her sister Brie in an eight-woman tag match for the world titles, but revealed Paige would take her place in the contest.

Paige had stopped competing in WWE in 2018 due to an injury and left the company entirely in 2022.

She had been the youngest WWE Divas champion at just 21 years old.

Stars are out

Several stars of the sports world have already made it to their seats early in the evening at WrestleMania 42.

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs drew big applause on the big screen.

Moments later, Indiana Pacers star and longtime wrestling fan Tyrese Haliburton’s appearance on the scoreboard was interrupted by San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, who slammed down an entire beer to a standing ovation.

The good vibes were immediately reversed as the image cut to media personality Stephen A. Smith, who was roundly booed.

No Brady, yet

Internet celebrity IShowSpeed took a loss in his first WrestleMania appearance, but may have made a few fans along the way.

An in-ring disagreement between the influencer and his tag team partner Austin Theory led to Theory getting pinned and a victory for The Usos and L.A. Knight.

Theory and IShowSpeed’s other partner, Logan Paul, attempted to beat up IShowSpeed after the bell, but the victorious team came to the rescue and set up IShowSpeed to jump from the ring onto a table where Paul had been laid out.

It was an impressive athletic feat for the wrestling newcomer.

The finish, however, did not involve a rumored appearance from Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady.

Paul and Brady had been engaged in a trash-talking battle, fueling speculation Brady would be involved in the match in the stadium where the Raiders play their home games.

That did not happen.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
