Women’s hockey is officially coming to Las Vegas.

The Professional Women’s Hockey League announced on Wednesday that an expansion team will begin play in Las Vegas starting next season.

The team, whose name will be announced at a later date, will play its home games at T-Mobile Arena, sharing residence with the Vegas Golden Knights.

In addition to Las Vegas, the PWHL will also be expanding to Hamilton, Ontario.

Las Vegas and Hamilton will join Detroit as new teams next season, giving the league 11 teams. There will be a press conference in Las Vegas at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

“The arrival of the PWHL in Vegas is a milestone for women’s hockey and our entire community,” said Knights president John Penhollow. “We’re proud of how far youth hockey has come locally, and even more excited about the path forward and opportunities ahead for future generations with the PWHL’s arrival in Las Vegas.”

Expansion draft details will be announced at a later time.

Las Vegas’ team colors will be green and gold, inspired “by the natural tones of Southern Nevada,” the league said in a statement.

“While Las Vegas is known for the Strip, the area is beloved by the community for its natural surroundings,” the statement continues. “Green and golden yellow represent the beauty of the desert and mountains that encircle Las Vegas, while gold is a nod to the glamour of what makes Vegas, Vegas, and, of course, the Golden Knights.”

The addition of the PWHL to Las Vegas is another step in the city’s evolution into becoming a hockey market.

Since the Vegas Golden Knights entered the NHL in 2017, youth hockey among girls and women has increased from 107 registered members to 5,305 as of 2024-25, according to USA Hockey — 2,353 of them are from ages 9-18.

It’s also another step forward for women’s sports with the footprint established by the Las Vegas Aces’ rise to being one of the premier franchises in the WNBA.

The Aces, with three championships in the past four years, have created a benchmark on a successful women’s franchise with a state-of-the-art practice facility in Henderson, and a franchise player to build around in four-time league MVP A’ja Wilson.

“While professional women’s hockey may be new to the market, we know Las Vegas is ready to welcome and champion a PWHL team of its own,” said Amy Scheer, the league’s executive vice president of business operations, in a statement. “This new team will be Las Vegas Valley-born and reflect the identity of its bold, welcoming, and resilient community, with athletes ready to put on a show and build a passionate following across the region.”
