One of the stars of Heated Rivalry has revealed that there was a major plot hole in season one.

The steamy ice hockey series debuted late last year, and it has since launched its two lead stars – Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams – into overnight success.

Based on a series of novels by Rachel Reid and adapted for television by Jacob Tierney, Heated Rivalry follows a secret romance between icy hockey players Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie).

Alongside Shane and Ilya’s relationship, another romance also plays out between Scott Hunter (François Arnaud) and Kip (Robbie G.K.).

However, actor François Arnaud has now confessed that there was a huge plot hole concerning his character in the season one finale.

In an interview on SiriusXM’s Smith Sisters Live, the 40-year-old actor was asked by presenter Mariah Smith: “Do you think we’ll get any intel on what happened between Scott and Kip between those years of, ‘I can’t do this’ and the kiss on the ice?”

François then went on to admit that there was a “f**k up in the timeline” that was only discovered after filming was completed.

“So that’s an interesting thing, and I think I’ve already spoiled that before, I’ll just say it again, even though Jacob [Tierney] will probably, you know, give me a slap on the wrist. It’s because in the book, and also in the way that we shot it, there was a f**k up in the timeline,” he explained.

“A lot of it was really well conceived, but the juxtaposition of the two story lines, they didn’t really know how they were going to cut from one to the other,” he continued.

“And so, we shot it thinking it was six months between [Kip’s] birthday and the cup, and now it’s three years,” he detailed, referring to the fact that the time jump in the book is outlined to be a few months, but the show skips forward several years.

François continued: “Episode six, the speech where I win the MLH MVP award, there was a line, and they locked the cut, so it was definitely on my face where I say, ‘Fear is a powerful thing, but this year I found the one thing that is more powerful.’

“So it was ‘this year’ I found the thing that is more powerful, but it couldn’t be this year. So, we had to change it. Like I think the ADR [automatic dialogue replacement] makes it like, ‘But now I found that.’ But it cuts. It cuts. I watched it. I watched it and it works,” he detailed further.

On December 12, Crave and HBO Max delighted fans when they announced that Heated Rivalry will be returning for a second season. The show was recommissioned before the final episode of season one had aired.

Although the plot of season two has yet to be officially confirmed, it is expected that it will follow The Long Game, the sixth book in Rachel Reid’s series.
