Hedges, who is now in his 12th major league season, plays for the Cleveland Guardians. Cleveland won the game 8-4 over the Baltimore Orioles and Hedges scored the first run of the game.
According to The Associated Press, he proposed to Dickson after the last strikeout and she said yes.
The 33-year-old catcher and his wife-to-be began dating in November 2024, according to The Associated Press. Many teammates were present for the proposal and stood at a distance to watch.
Hedges told The Associated Press, "I’ve had the ring since early spring training but was just trying to figure out when the right time was.”
“I was going to do it regardless," he said, "but I really wanted to win that game to make it extra special.”
Hedges is a 2023 World Series champion with the Texas Rangers.
“I had a lot of nerves today and I’m always nervous for baseball games, but just trying to stay present, knowing there were some activities after made it harder," he told The Associated Press.
"It was a special day. A special day to be able to soak it all in,” Hedges said.
According to The Associated Press, after the proposal, Hedges quickly changed into a suit for a night out.
“Now, we’re going to go to dinner and then just have a night to ourselves and enjoy it,” he said.
