- Awaiting the U.S. in the Round of 16 is Belgium after the Red Devils rallied down 2-0 to stun Senegal 3-2 deep in extra time.
- Folarin Balogun, moments after having an offsides goal, secured the opener in the 45th minute after a deflected through ball from Malik Tillman fell in his path.
- Balogun was later issued a red card in the 64th minute for serious foul play on what appeared to be an incidental leg-landing challenge on defender Tarik Muharemovic.
- Tillman gave the U.S. a key cushion by scoring a stunning free kick in the 82nd minute to make it 2-0 despite being down a man.
- USA entered the game ranked No. 15 by FIFA, while Bosnia and Herzegovina came in at No. 61.
- The Stars and Stripes topped Group D with wins over Paraguay and Australia before falling to Turkey on a late goal with a rotated team.
- The Dragons finished third in Group B with a tie vs. Canada, a big loss to Switzerland and a win over Qatar.
