Netherlands finishes third on Winter Olympics medal table, sets national gold record

The Netherlands finished third on the medal table at the 2026 Winter Olympics, achieving its highest-ever ranking at the Games. Dutch athletes won ten gold medals, seven silver, and three bronze, surpassing the country’s previous best of fourth place at the 1972 Sapporo Olympics. Norway led the medal table with 18 golds, while the United States took second with 12. Host nation Italy, Germany, and France followed directly behind the Netherlands.

Dutch athletes set a new national record for gold medals at a single Winter Games, surpassing the previous record of eight set in Sochi, Pyeongchang, and Peking. The total medal count, however, remained below the 24 medals won in Sochi 2014, with the Netherlands taking 20 in Milan-Cortina.

All Dutch medals were won in speed skating competitions. On the long track, Femke Kok captured the 500 meters, Jutta Leerdam took the 1,000 meters, and Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong won the 1,500 meters. Marijke Groenewoud and Jorrit Bergsma each claimed mass start gold, adding to the country’s tally.

Short track also contributed to the Netherlands’ success. Xandra Velzeboer won both the 500 and 1,000 meters, while Jens van ’t Wout claimed victories in the 1,000 and 1,500 meters, and the men’s relay team secured the top spot.

Silver medals were added by Kok in the 1,000 meters, Leerdam in the 500 meters, Jenning de Boo in both the 500 and 1,000 meters, Merel Conijn in the 5,000 meters, the women’s pursuit team, and Melle van ’t Wout in the 500 meters short track. Bronze went to Bergsma in the 10,000 meters, Kjeld Nuis in the 1,500 meters, and Jens van ’t Wout in the 500 meters short track.
