Delight... Derby boss John Eustace celebrates after the win.

John Eustace in 'electric' Derby County admission but suffers four new injuries

by · Derbyshire Live

John Eustace was full of admiration for his Derby County side after a nightmare week of further injuries as they recorded their first win of 2025 with victory over his old club Blackburn.

Derby secured a 2-1 win at a bouncing Pride Park where goals from Craig Forsyth and Ebou Adams put the Rams 2-0 ahead inside seven minutes from the kick-off.

Rovers came back into the game and pulled a goal back through Makhtar Gueye before the break, but Derby battled superbly after the interval and kept Valerien Ismael's side at arm's length.

The win was met with huge relief as Derby moved to within four points of safety, but it has been a difficult week in terms of injuries with Lars Jorgen-Salvesen, Ryan Nyambe, Ben Osborn and Kemar Roofe all added to the treatment table.

Speaking after the game, Eustace said: "I was just really proud of the effort of the group," he said. "The lads were outstanding and we've had a really difficult week with injuries.

"We've had two or three different teams throughout the week and the four big injuries we've had, and the way the lads went about their business today, was something I was very proud of.

"The stadium was electric. It was rocking. Both sets of fans were great and the way the Derby fans really got behind the boys was our 12th man today.

"They pulled the ball into the net for the first two goals and then kept it away from the net in the second half. From a defensive point of view, I thought we adapted at half-time very well and limited a good team to next to nothing."
