John Eustace is thrilled to be keeping Kane Wilson at Derby County and feels there are still areas of his game that he can help improve.

Wilson has been rewarded for an excellent season with Derby exercising the option in his contract that initially ties him to the club for another 12 months.

But the club are in talks with the full-back over a new and improved deal that would keep him at Pride Park for the longer term.

Wilson has been a key performer as the club secured its Championship safety having come back into the team in March following a hamstring injury.

And Eustace is looking forward to keep developing him as a player as Derby look forward to another season in the second tier.

"He's been awesome," he said. "He's very positive when he gets the ball, very direct, gets up the pitch and can create.

"There's a lot that I feel I can help him develop as a player with and without the ball, and I'm really excited to be working with him.

"We have to remember as well he's been playing through a knee injury in the last three or four games as well.

"To get him on the pitch again (v Stoke), after another week that he's been through is full credit to him. It's great news."

Wilson has gone on to become a huge fans' favourite during his time at Derby having signed on a free transfer under previous head coach Paul Warne in the summer of 2023.

He has made more than 80 apperances during his time at Pride Park where he has scored five goals during his time at the club.

Wilson scored twice this season with goals coming in the opening day defeat to Blackburn Rovers and then in the 4-0 drubbing of Portsmouth before Christmas.
