John Eustace makes frank Derby County admission after Luton Town win crunch relegation battle

by · Derbyshire Live

John Eustace admitted his Derby County side "looked a bit anxious" in the first half as Luton Town secured victory over their relegation rivals at Pride Park.

An early goal from Millenic Alli was enough to seal all three points for the Hatters who moved level on points with the Rams in a frantic Championship clash.

While Derby were poor in the first half, they were much better in the second half with the visitors having to withstand long spells of pressure.

The Rams had a glorious chance to level after the break when Jerry Yates only had Thomas Kaminski to beat but was denied by the Luton goalkeeper.

Asked to sum up his emotions after the game, Rams head coach Eustace said: "It was disappointing to lose.

"In the first half, we looked a bit anxious, a little bit, not us, and we weren't on the front foot enough.

"We didn't win enough tackles, but in the second half I was really proud of the effort. I thought we were excellent and we just couldn't get the goal.

"In the first half we just looked a little bit nervous, it was a big game and Luton made it very difficult for us.

"We couldn't get our game going. We adapted a couple of things at half-time, which was much better and we got a foothold of the game.

"We were on the front foot and unfortunately we just couldn't get the equaliser."
