Burnley could be missing seven players at Derby County after latest injury update
by Jordan Blackwell · Derbyshire LiveBurnley could be without seven players when they visit Derby County on Tuesday night with winger Manuel Benson their latest absentee.
Benson was missing from the Clarets’ 2-1 victory over Coventry on Saturday and manager Scott Parker reckons it’s unlikely he will return in time to face Derby at Pride Park.
“Benny’s got a knock,” Parker said. “He pulled out of training two days ago with an ankle issue, so he didn't make the squad.”
Asked if Benson was set to miss Tuesday’s fixture against Derby, Parker added: “I would have thought so. I don't think he'll be ready for Tuesday, just with training time as well.
"He's not going to be, even if he's fit, he's not going to have much training time with us. He'll probably miss Tuesday as well.”
Benson has not played regularly for Burnley this season, having missed most of the first half of the season with an Achilles issue, but he has been a consistent presence on their bench for the past two months.
He’s now one of seven players who could miss out for the table-toppers on Tuesday night.
Jordan Beyer, Bashir Humphreys, Jonjo Shelvey and Enock Agyei are also injured, while Aaron Ramsey and Mike Tresor are still working their way back to fitness with minutes for the Clarets’ Under-21s.
The fixture is set to be an almighty test for John Eustace’s side, who saw their four-match winning run ended by a defeat at Swansea on Saturday.
Burnley are now the new Championship leaders, their unbeaten run extending to 26 matches with that victory over Coventry.
Haji Wright’s goal for the Sky Blues was just the 12th Burnley have conceded in 40 matches this season.
Derby, meanwhile, are now outside the relegation zone on goal difference alone, sitting level on points with 22nd-placed Cardiff.
The late defeat in Swansea meant they were the only side in the bottom seven to fail to earn a result over the weekend.
