Marcus Harness makes 'chaotic' comparison as John Eustace thrives after Paul Warne struggles

by · Derbyshire Live

Marcus Harness has welcomed the tactical changes John Eustace has made since replacing Paul Warne.

The Derby County attacker, whose two goals including a late winner, inspired the Rams to a vital 3-2 victory over relegation rivals Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, discussed the reasons behind the sharp turnaround as three successive wins followed a run of 12 games without one.

Having scored only once under Warne, Harness has now bagged three in two matches as Eustace has breathed life into what once seemed a lost cause. Derby are now just one point from safety – and a win from 19th spot.

They also recovered from losing a two-goal lead at Home Park to be stuck at 2-2 until the 88th minute.

“It shows how far the confidence and the group has come and the belief in what we are doing because earlier this season a goal would have knocked the wind out of our sails but I feel like we were quietly confident even at 2-2 we would get another chance,” he told Rams TV.

“I feel like I am getting into positions where I can finally show what I can do. The season hasn’t gone as I would have hoped – I am sure for a lot of us – but it’s exciting and I am glad we have finally turned it around.”

Harness went further in an interview with BBC Radio Derby as he further explained his renaissance. “I feel like some people work better in chaos, which we might have been a bit more chaotic in the past and some people work better in good, organised structure and I feel like that’s (the) kind of player I am.

“I need to be in a good structure and know what’s going on around me but freedom within that to kind of bring my best attributes and thankfully it’s been a good week.

“We are really confident we can get the job done this season. It’s a hard league, anyone can beat anyone, we go into every game believing we can get something from it but maybe a few weeks ago when confidence was on the floor maybe we weren’t. We have won plenty of games in the past and we can win games again.”
