Paul Warne reveals Dajaune Brown gesture as Derby County striker aims for Stoke City spot
by Leigh Curtis · Derbyshire LivePaul Warne has revealed how Dajaune Brown's photo has gone up on Derby County's win wall and says he deserved his moment in the spotlight.
The Rams striker rescued a point for the Rams against Hull City last weekend as he bagged his first senior goal for the club. It was a moment for the academy graduate to cherish with the teenager now hoping to be in contention to start against Stoke City this weekend.
Rams head coach Warne said he was thrilled to see the striker get off the mark and a memento of that moment is now taking pride of place on the win wall at Moor Farm.
"I am really pleased for him and I hope it's one of many," he said. "The Championship is some standard and you don't get many chances. I'm really pleased that he scored, especially the way he scored by getting off the deck and getting a really good height.
"The initial thought was we're buzzing for him. The bench was buzzing for him. Everyone was screaming. But you're just pleased for him really. We had a photo with him after the game, which has gone on our win wall, and it's just a magic moment.
"Weirdly, I think more fondly of the academy than I do thinking we were soccer geniuses because we're not. We don't sit there and think 'ah, a free kick is coming in 10 minutes' time, I'll put Dajaune on now to get warm to do it.
"It is a dedication to how hard he's trained because there are 25 players, and I've got 22 outfield fit today. You have to be really patient to get a chance and you are judged every day. He deserved an opportunity and probably has in other games, as have other players. But for him to take his goal like he did, I am really pleased."
