Paul Warne issues honest Derby County verdict after Preston draw
by Leigh Curtis · Derbyshire LiveDerby County head coach Paul Warne was satisfied with a point as the Rams came back to secure a 1-1 draw at Preston North End.
Derby had fallen behind when Sam Greenwood headed in during the first half before Jerry Yates restored parity when he headed in from a set-piece. Chances were few and far between in the second half as defences came out on top although Marcus Harness flashed a shot narrowly over the bar.
Asked for his assessment after the game, Warne said: "My view is probably very similar to Hecky's (Paul Heckingbottom, Preston manager) if he is honest," he said.
"The conditions were not really conducive to amazing play although the pitch looked great and fair play to the groundsman it held up a treat.
"It felt like a set-piece day. I thought we started the game really well, they scored and it was a great header. It has to be to beat my great goalkeeper. I was disappointed there was no challenge, but that is another conversation.
"We scored and quietened the crowd down a bit. We frustrated them really well in the second half. We didn't let them play through us and, on another day, we could have scored from a counter. We just weren't quite good enough to win the game. That is a fair assessment."
