Derby County face £5m transfer wait amid Patrick Agyemang development

by · Derbyshire Live

Derby County may have to wait to try to complete a transfer for Patrick Agyemang.

The Rams are said to be “closing in” on a $7m deal for Charlotte FC and USA frontman Agyemang.

Agyemang helped his country reach the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the early hours of Monday, as they beat Costa Rica on penalties in the quarter-finals, after a 2-2 draw.

Agyemang started the tie for Mauricio Pochettino's side before being substituted off in the closing stages.

USA will now face Guatemala in the last four of the competition - and it is unlikely any transfer deal for Agyemang will go through while they are still in the tournament, meaning the Rams could have to wait until it’s all over.

Charlotte FC boss Dean Smith has previously addressed Agyemang’s future.

“We're not in a position as a club where we need to sell anybody, especially if it's going to weaken our team,” said Smith.

“But saying that, every player will have a value as well.

“We spoke to Patrick and his representatives to try and get him to sign a deal, a longer deal with this club on better wages. But they turned that down and we'll see where we go with it.

“As I've always said, he's our player for another 18 months. And unless there's a deal that's right for this football club, then Patrick is our player and we enjoy having him here.”
