Nigel Benn hits back at Chris Eubank Sr after 'disgrace' comments over egg slap
by Steve Wollaston, Reuben Rosso-Powell PA · Derbyshire LiveNigel Benn has come to the defence of Chris Eubank Jr, following comments made by Eubank Jr's father, Chris Eubank Sr, who called his son a "disgrace" after an incident involving an egg and Benn's son Conor earlier in February.
Chris Eubank Sr has been noticeably absent from the promotional events leading up to the highly anticipated bout between his son and Benn, due to their strained relationship, which was exacerbated when Eubank Sr publicly criticised Eubank Jr for the egg-throwing episode.
The younger Benn, aged 28, attributed his two failed drug tests, which resulted in the cancellation of their initial fight in 2022, to excessive egg consumption.
The rivalry between Nigel Benn and Eubank Sr, which saw them face off twice in the 1990s, has set the stage for the current conflict between their sons.
Speaking to Sky Sports during the public workouts, Nigel Benn expressed his disappointment: "I'm so sad Chris is not here, it's a family affair, I don't like to see a father and son fall out publicly, sort out your issues behind close doors and makeup."
He continued, showing support for Eubank Jr: "I wish Chris didn't say that about his son publicly. Regardless of him smashing the egg, he's not a disgrace, he's done really well for himself, he shouldn't be saying that in public about his son and I'm sad about that. I wish Chris backed his son."
Benn, a natural 147-pound fighter, is stepping up to 160 pounds to face Eubank Jr at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
The undefeated boxer from East London is eager to silence his critics and demonstrate his ability to triumph over a naturally larger opponent in the capital.
Benn also shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming challenge: "I'm loving the challenge of fighting at 160, I'm loving the competition," he told Sky Sports.
"I've prepared for this, I've done everything I can possibly do in training and that's filled me with confidence.
"You lot think I can't win? Watch me because you lot can't do it, that's your mentality, I'll do it and I'll show you.
"I don't like him (Eubank Jr), it's a family feud and it's for the family name, it's always personal, always."
